September 11th 2011 - NEW YORK - Day 1 - PART 2 - Our Trip to United States

New York - Sunday 11th September 2011
There wasn't anything planned for this day, other then the late afternoon Clipper Ship cruise passing the Statue of Liberty.
However, fate works in mysterious ways, and we found ourselves meeting up with 2 more of our New York Angels. Laura H & Jim Preston - outside St Paul's Cathedral and at Ground Zero.

In memory of the 343 firefighters lost on 9/11 - I placed a Queensland Fire & Rescue (QFRS) & Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB) patch with the many others
This pew is 1 of only a few left that tired and weary Ground Zero workers slept on while working at the pit. As they tossed and turned, trying to catch a few hours sleep before returning to work, their gear scratched the pews.
Sitting with Laura reflecting on the importance of the pew.

The many thousands of white ribbons people wrote their thoughts on and placed on the gates surrounding St Paul's on the 10th Anniversary.

After meeting Jim and giving him some "Aussie" gifts, we were approached by a news crew asking us the reasoning behind it.
Of course we were there to not only meet with new friends, but we were there to show our respect and honour those that were lost that day, and those who continue to battle diseases they contracted from working at Ground Zero. While we may not of been in USA at the time of 9/11, the "brotherhood" of firefighters - and those who support them reaches far across the ocean.

We went for lunch, before Jim, his wife Cheryl and Laura personally escorted us to Pier 17 for our Clipper Ship cruise.

We were fortunate enough to have Texas Officers not only pose with Ozzie but sign our American flag as well.
